Our Story

We’re mother and daughter team, Bert & Virginia, and we are driven by our passion to inspire creativity in others.

After many years of creating, Bert is ready to step back and share her knowledge, in hopes of sparking that same creative energy within all of you!

We specialize in all things polymer clay, from DIY Clay Kits that include clay, tools, and all items needed to sculpt your own figurine/ornament, to pre-made miniature props and custom crafted clay colors.

We are so excited for this newest venture and thank you all for your continued love and support through the years, we wouldn’t be here without you!

I'm Virginia, I'm 24 years young and love ALL things creative and artsy. When I'm not busy in the studio with my mom, I can be found hiking with my husband in the beautiful Sonoran Desert, running around taking macro photographs of flowers, cooking up delicious healthy recipes, or lounging with our four lazy cats.

I have been involved in my mom's clay work my ENTIRE life, but never knew I would end up here all these years later, starting a new busniess with all of the information I have been surrounded by since childhood.

Some of my favorite memories from childhood were when my mom would make a special trip to our school each Christmas and treat our classmates to a clay ornament lesson. She would bring the clay in plastic cups, with all the pieces and parts separated out to help each of us make our very own ornament. I remember the excitement of my peers, as many of them had never played with clay before. Even after many decades, we still hear from customers about how their children’s ornaments are their favorite to go up on the tree each year.

This one of our FAVORITE aspects of Bert’s Clay Creations, seeing our motto re-affirmed. That these are more than ornaments, more than just a whimsical Christmas decoration sculpted from a humble lump of clay. They are MEMORIES- and they are entirely unique and hold different sentimental value to each and every person who owns one. They are a yearly tradition, a time capsule to childhood, a special family moment while setting up the Christmas tree, they are a family heirloom, a tribute to a wedding, or a memorial piece in honor of a passed loved one, or even a token to that unforgettable moment from a cherished family vacation. Whatever it may be, I have been incredibly honored to be a part of Bert’s Clay Creations through the years.

Polymer clay has been a part of my life for over 32 years now. I like to say I was “called to clay” as I just can’t seem to escape it! Bert’s Clay Creations was born in 1985 and few days have passed where I have not been in my studio creating a custom for a customer, mass producing for seasonal shows or learning new techniques to advance in my craft.

Earlier this year, after my seasonal hiatus, I mentioned to Virginia that I wanted to create something new. Not sure what, but something new. I thought why can’t people make their own ornaments? She said, “Let’s make kits!” and so, it began – Bert’s Clay Studio was born!

Over the years, I’ve been asked many times about tutorials or how I make these. With Virginia’s graphic design and technology skills, we decided to partner and collaborate in our new venture, DIY clay kits.

It’s only the beginning for Bert’s Clay Studio. We are so excited to finally teach the gift of clay to others. So let the "CLAYtivities" begin!
